Free concerts by Art Poco's Rat Pack Tribute, The Sweet, Gary Lewis & The Playboys
Deadwood, S.D. (08/01/16) – The sweet sound of well-tuned engines will echo through Deadwood and the Black Hills from Thursday, Aug. 25, to Sunday, Aug. 28, as hot rods, classic cars and vintage vehicles of all types gather for Kool Deadwood Nites. It's by far the biggest celebration of the year for a town famous for big celebrations.
Free Main Street concerts during Kool Deadwood Nites include Art Poco's Rat Pack Tribute, The Sweet and Gary Lewis & The Playboys. The Rat Pack Tribute, with the look and sound of the original trio of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr., will take the stage Thursday, August 25.
The Sweet band formed in 1968 and had their first number one hit in 1973, with "Blockbuster." From there, the band went on to international success among rock fans. Additional top hits include "Love is Like Oxygen," "Fox on the Run," "Ballroom Blitz," "Teenage Rampage," and more. They take the stage on Friday, August 26.
Gary Lewis & The Playboys, with eight gold singles, 17 top 40 hits, four gold albums and 45 million records sold worldwide, will take the Kool Deadwood Nites stage on Saturday, August 27. Their hits include "This Diamond Ring," "Count Me In," "Save Your Heart for Me," "She's Just My Style," "Everybody Loves a Clown," "Green Grass" and more.
But the real stars of Kool Deadwood Nites are the cars. Events include the People's Choice Awards and the eighth annual Sock Hop on Thursday; the Deadwood Rod Run on Friday; Classic Car Competition and Black Hills Poker Runs on Saturday; and a parade, show-and-shine and awards presentations on Sunday.
The Classic Car Competition judging runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Days of '76 Event Grounds and adjoining Ferguson Field. On Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m. each day, there will be a Classic Car Auction at Deadwood Mountain Grand.
Kool Deadwood Nites - Schedule Highlights:
- The Lodge at Deadwood Convention Center will host registration for Kool Deadwood Nites. Times are Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. - NEW in 2016, there will be no Saturday registration. Those who have pre-registered, but have not picked up their items and information by 7pm on Friday, August 26, can do so at the hotel front desk.
- Reserved parking areas for registered cars: The History & Information Center parking lot (Thursday to Sunday), designated areas on Upper Main and Siever streets (Thursday).
- Free spectator parking will be available on U.S. Highway 14-A at Akela Spa. Free shuttles to downtown will run continuously from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
